The Sect is an ancient organization comprised of multiple different secret religious orders. They are dedicated to destroying Aram "Armstrong" Anni-Padda, who they believe is the Devil Incarnate. This has made them adversaries to the adventuring duo Archer & Armstrong.

History[]

The foundations of the Sect began in 1191 A.D, in a sect of the Knights Templar known as the Order of St. Phoebe. Extremely devout Christians, the Order of St. Phoebe were zealots devoted to their leader, a woman named Phoebe whom they viewed as a "living saint". Unbeknownst to them, Lady Phoebe was no saint, but a hedonistic, calculating and ambitious woman who was secretly in allegiance with King Phillip of France, who sought to exploit King Richard of England's presence on the Crusades against Saladin to weaken England for a future conquest. As part of this mission, she intended to seduce a young English knight, Lockinbar of Kent, but Aram "Armstrong" Anni-Padda stole his way into meeting her in Lockinbar's stead and seduced her. Because of that encounter, Lady Phoebe became pregnant, and when this was revealed to her knights, she deflected blame by claiming to have been seduced by a demon in mortal guise - Armstrong. Though Armstrong escaped their attempt to lynch him for defiling their living saint, the Order of St. Phoebe vowed to hunt Armstrong down, even if it took millennia.

In fleeing from the head of the Order of St. Phoebe, a zealot named Brother Nicholas, Armstrong loaded himself into a catapult and launched himself to safety. But, in the process, he destroyed a mosque in the city of Acre that was particularly sacred to the family of Saladin, who had warned Gilad Anni-Padda several months earlier that if this mosque was destroyed, the Muslims under Saladin would hunt the man responsible to the ends of earth and time.
