Tanaka is a high-ranking official in Project Rising Spirit, the secret organization that created the super-soldier Bloodshot. His mentor Hideyoshi Iwatsu was the company's leader until his death. Tanaka considers himself the true heir to Iwatsu's legacy, but Iwatsu's incompetent son Yoshi Iwatsu acts as his rival.
