Grandmother is a Freewill robot that protects the nation of Japan in the 41st Century. She is a large entity encompassing the entire island with the ability to guide all technological systems. In times of war, Grandmother is capable of securing the populace and transforming into a giant space-faring dragon that shoots lasers. To protect her internally she has created the superhero Rai. Grandmother and her control over the people of Japan are opposed by a political faction known as the Anti-Grannies. Eventually she would fall in love with the robot 1-A and they would merge into the entity Grand One.
