Acclaim Entertainment is a video game developer that purchased the publication company Valiant Comics in 1994. Their goal was to acquire the Valiant characters and make video games about them, using the comic books as additional marketing for their video games. They would go on to rebrand Valiant as Acclaim Comics. Acclaim completely rebooted the Valiant Universe in 1996, retooling many of the properties to make them more adaptable for video games. The company eventually went bankrupt in 2004. The rights to the Valiant Universe were then acquired by Valiant Entertainment, who rebooted the line again in 2012. For this reason, the period between 1996-2004 is thought of as the "Acclaim Comics" era in Valiant continuity.

The collector's consensus today divides Valiant into three sections: the Valiant Comics era universe (published between 1991-1996) known as "Valiant Heroes One" or "VH1"; the Acclaim Comics era universe (published between 1996 - 2000) lumped under the title "VH2" for "Valiant Heroes Two"; and the latest Valiant Entertainment era universe (published post-2012) which takes place in the "Valiant Entertainment Universe" or "VEI".
